2K Sports: NHL 2K10
01.01.2009
This game offers a lot of challenges, but unfortunately it contains a little too much violence and is too advanced for children under 13 years of age.
This is in essence a fun sports game. You can create your own players and team. When you make the players you choose looks, skills and equipment. When you put together a team you can choose a name and its home city. You can also choose a design for the logo and their outfits, as well as colors for the gloves, helmets, tights and trousers. The game has many different modes to play in. In one of them you play a whole season, and you can choose between playing the games yourself or whether you want the machine to simulate them. You can simulate the whole season, but the likelihood of loosing the games is greater.
The menu is not very user-friendly, as you have to aim the control sticks at the area you want to explore. The graphics have weaknesses too. It is, for example, impossible to see the audience move. But it has to be said that on the ice, everything is colorful and detailed, and the tackling details are very good. When you play, two screens come up with information, which blocks your view of the players on the ice. This can be quite annoying. There’s also a bad selection of music, which means you listen to the same songs all the time.
Child suitability:
Hockey is a sport filled with tackling and fighting. This is reflected in this game, but it is possible to change the settings and lower the level of violence. You can’t completely eliminate all tackling and fighting, though. The button functions are also very complicated and difficult to learn. This game should not be played by children under the age of 13, and even for those over sixteen there are better sports games on the market.
